The Lincolnshire Allyship Toolkit

As part of the Lincolnshire People Plan 2022/23 the Lincolnshire Allyship Toolkit has been created to provide a bank of tools and resources around the importance of allyship.

Research shows that when people from marginalised groups feel a sense of belonging at work, they are more productive and have better health and wellbeing.  We should all be striving to create a more inclusive workplace, and we all have the ability to effect change – as an ally.

An ally is often defined as someone who advocates and actively works towards the inclusion of marginalised groups, many of whom face discrimination on a regular basis.  An ally will not identify as a member of that group but stand in solidarity with and share a supportive point of view. They will take the time to listen to individuals when they share their experiences and use their position of privilege to help groups get closer to the future they hope to see.

If adopted correctly, allyship strategies can help to create a diverse and inclusive environment where everyone feels safe and supported. It has never been so important for people to feel championed and cared for by their employer – and the last thing any organisation or company needs is for their workers to lose faith in them and move on, in search of better support.
